Gov. Arthur Yap today launched a 60-day community milk feeding program for children of tender ages in initial 17 towns this time of critical health concern affecting all.
In Central Visayas, the DOH today reported a two-year-old girl in Cebu City as the youngest new confirmed case.
The milk program is coordinated by the Education Development Center, Office of the Provincial Veterinarian, Provincial Health Office and Provincial Nutrition Council.
There will be 5,130 target beneficiaries belonging to the vulnerable group of children aged two to five.
The identified initial localities are prioritized because of their children malnutrition rate.Constant milk provision in two months is essential to boosting their immune sysyem amidst the COVID-19 scare.
Drinking milk regularly promotes their overall health condition and well-being.Aside from providing the nutritional need of the children, the program supports the livelihood of the dairy farmers.
It ensures their source of income from the sustained demand for milk and encourages them to increase dairy production. Pre-packed fresh milk will be delivered on a weekly basis to the identified municipalities.
The barangay nutrition scholars (BNS) will handle the milk distribution to the recipients in their respective areas.
The program is Yap’s latest health-direct initiative in the face of the COVID-19 threat, which has not even spared some newborn babies.
